The article touches upon peculiarities of the political correctness phenomenon, typical for the modern political discourse. One the one hand, political correctness contributes to social tension avoidance and creation of conflict-free atmosphere. The choice of means of language of political correctness ideology is linked to the politeness strategy, according to which statements based on stereotypes or bearing negative connotation can be changed for remarks with neutral or positive connotation. On the other hand, redundant euphemization aiming at politeness creates barriers for successful cross-cultural communication depriving the statement of its value. For illustrative purposes the author analyses the book «Politically correct bedtime stories. Modern Tales for Our Life and Times» written by G.F. Garner.
