The article reveals the most important results of the scientific work of the outstanding researcher of Ancient history and culture, Doctor of historical sciences, Professor Eduard Da-vidovich Frolov (1933–2018) as one of the most prominent representatives of the St. Petersburg school of Classics. The scientific work of Ed. D. Frolov is shown as a very important stage in the development of the St. Petersburg school of Classics. The scholarly writings by Ed. D. Frolov, dealing with the political history of Ancient Greece, social thought, Ancient culture, Russian historiography of Antiquity, are fully and thoroughly described in this article. The scientific works of Ed. D. Frolov covers the number of the important problems, such as the political history of Ancient Greece, social thought, Ancient culture, Russian historiography of Antiquity. Ed. D. Frolov has investigated the formation of the polis in Archaic Greece in the 8 th — 6 th centuries BC, the problem of the crisis of a political organization in the 4 th century BC, the place and role of tyranny in Ancient Greek history and others. All his scholarly works have always been carried out with exhaustive completeness, on the basis of brilliant knowledge of the entire mass of sources. The scientific activities of Ed. D. Frolov have resulted in more than 350 publications. Among them are 15 monographs, many chapters in collective monographs, translations from Ancient Greek and German, many articles and reviews. Finally, Ed. D. Frolov has created his own scientific school, having brought up a large number of pupils — Candidates and Doctors of science.
