In this article, the author analyzes the evolution of the legal assessment of the practice of gerrymandering in the United States, indicates the reasons that prompted the federal center to resort to legal regulation of the US electoral system at the state level and the impact of this regulation on the practice of gerrymandering, evaluates the role of Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court in the legal regulation of the practice of gerrymandering.
