The article attempts to explore the mythological identification of Pushkin with Mozart and Baratynsky with Salieri, by way of analyzing both poets' elegy poetics, and to transfer the theme of jealousy into the plane of a creative duel. Using a specific historical and literary plot as a case study, this dialogue helps to identify the fallacy of the progressionist view of literature, because literature defies any hierarchy, especially when it comes to classics.
