During the study of the ovaries in the lamprey Lampetra planeri at different stages of oogenesis, asynchronous development of oocytes during the period of sex differentiation and oocytes of the period of pretellogenesis shortly before puberty were revealed. The data obtained, together with the information accumulated in the literature, give reason to believe that lampreys, like pacific salmon, are secondarily monocyclic animals.
