This article is devoted to the review of phonetic and phonological works in European Turkic linguistics. Obviously, phonology research has been the cornerstone of all modern European Turkic linguistics since its inception. Analysis of the works written during the history of the issue and devoted to the «sound aspects» of the Turkic speech leads to the conclusion that researchers often deal with solving problems of purely phonological nature, sometimes incorrectly treating them as phonetic problems.
