The article studies mass consciousness, offers many definitions to the concept,
the definition of "mass consciousness" is found in the literature of the middle of the 19th century, and is widely used by the end of the century, at this time it is still descriptive, focusing on the scale of the manifestation of psychological events. Until then, the concept of "mass psychology" was most often used. The relevance of the problem of mass consciousness is considered, the reasoning of the authors is analyzed, the history of its research is traced, the main types, varieties and forms of the masses are distinguished. The article presents the theoretical aspects of the study of mass consciousness and indicates the transformation that mass consciousness has undergone.
