To the epoch of printing the only form of the Bible text for private use was Palaia Exegetica. It contained an abridged text of Octateuch with additions of short explanatory notes, apocrypha translated from Greek and Hebrew sources, excerpts from patristic homiletics, and anti-jewish polemic. It may be compared with La Bible historiale or Glossa ordinaria of European literary tradition of the same epoch.
