This report looks at the deficiencies of the existing universal system of the international security, functioning according to the United Nations Charter and poses a question — is it possible to create an alternative to this system? Can North Atlantic treaty organization (NATO) play such a role or can such organization of international security be created by BRICS countries? An answer to this question is no, because Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are situated in the different continents, they have different relations with the United States of America, they have unresolved problems between themselves, such as a border problem between India and China. These two countries had an armed border conflict in 1962 in Tibet. So the relations between Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa would not reach the level of military cooperation as it is in NATO. But cooperation between BRICS countries can strengthen their positions in the international relations.
