The paper is devoted to the analysis of the development and application of the methodology for the study of Digital Buddhism. In modern Russian and foreign sociology of religion, more and more attention is paid to studies of the influence of media technologies, the Internet and social media on Buddhist ideas, practices and forms of social organization. The reason for this is a very curious circumstance. Buddhist communities were among the foremost groups of spiritual enthusiasts who formed translocal virtual networking networks even before the spread of the Internet. Among such enthusiasts were Buddhists and Buddhists from different countries. They also created the first descriptive concepts of online Buddhism or Buddhism online “cyber-sangha” and “cyber-Buddhism”. Currently, these concepts require a serious revision in the framework of newly created sociological theories. In this report, the authors will illustrate the results of this revision based on the results of their own long-term case studies of Russian Digital Buddhism
