The article is devoted to the study of the contributions of members of the Godunov family to the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery. As the authors have shown, the gifts of the Godunovs to the monastery date back to the time from the late 80s of the 16th century to the beginning of the Troubles (1604-1605), when the Godunov family was at the peak of its political and economic power. The main part of the Godunovs’ gifts was made “in commemoration of the soul” of their relatives. This fact confirms that the commemorative practice of monasteries and a wide range of memorial performances were an integral part of the life of medieval Christian society. The richest gifts to the Kirillov Monastery size of hundreds and thousands of rubles were made by Boris Godunov - first a boyar and then a tsar. Among the givers to the monastery were other prominent members of the family - the boyars Dmitry Ivanovich, Grigory Vasilyevich, Ivan Vasilievich and the okolnichy Peter Vasilievich Godunovs. The study of the records of the Godunovs’ gifts to the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery in comparison with data from other sources allowed the authors of the article to reveal new biographical information about the members of the clan (their baptismal and monastic names, dates of death, names of wives and sons), as well as clarify the question of how were records information about gifts to the Gifts books.
