From 1839 to 1842, a famous Russian Slavicist I.I. Sreznevsky was on a business trip abroad. He visited Czechia, Moravia, Silesia, Upper and Lower Lusatia, Kraine, Styria, Carinthia, Friulia, Dalmatia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slavonia, Serbia, Hungary, and Galicia, where he studied local dialects, collected folklore, got acquainted with the culture and customs of the Slavs as well as literature and local li-brary sources. In his “Report of the Adjunct Sreznevsky to the Minister of Education from Bratislava of April 5 (17), 1842” and “Travel Letters” to his mother, he provides a lot of interesting information about Ugric and Galician Rusins and their language. While in Galicia and Hungary, he met with prominent figures of the Rusin revival D. Zubritsky, Y. Golovatsky, I. Levitsky, A. Dobryansky and others. Subsequently, I. Sreznevsky raised the Rusin theme in the articles “Thoughts on the History of the Russian Language” (1849), “Ugric Rus'” (1852), etc. Unfortunately, the his works on Rusins are un-claimed nowadays for some reason.
