The paper considers some models of metaphorical transfer of names of natural (atmospheric) phenomena. Since metaphors are the products of their time, they cannot be accounted for without consulting the diachronic aspect, which allows us to identify the conceptual transfer vector - the emotional attitude of native speakers to natural phenomena, determined by fear of them, by the faith in their supernatural origin.
