The article is devoted to the history of graffiti and the peculiarities of this phenomenon in the Arab countries. About graffiti in Libya, Tunisia, and Egypt is starting talking after the events of the so-called “Arab Spring”, when in- scriptions and drawings of a protest nature began to appear on the streets of the cities, expressing the mood of the local population. However, graffiti became pop- ular in the Arab World long before these events. The first tags, inscriptions, draw- ings refer to the times of the first Palestinian intifada (1987-1993) and the civil123war in Lebanon (1975-1990). Unlike American and European graffiti, in which artists often seek to perpetuate their name (or rather a pseudonym) or compete with other graffiti artists in inventing original fonts, graffiti in the Arab countries is a way to express an opinion to the political situation in the country, to attract public attention to specific problems or to convey important information.
