The article examines Vladimir Lamansky's (1833–1914) pedagogical activities who taught in St.-Petersburg University in the 1870s and 1880s. On the basis of his correspondence, his judgements on the state of affairs in the university, or University Statute of 1884 are adduced. Furthermore, it sheds light on the circumstances of his quit from the university in 1899, opinions of his pupils about Lamansky's manner of teaching are cited and the hy-pothesis of is proved that one may speak about Lamansky's «scholarly school».
