This article discusses some problems concerning the foundation of ancient Corinth. According to theancienttradition, thefoundation of thecity was theresultof thecampaign of theDorian leader Aletes. Afew chronological data of sources allow us to date this event back to the first quarter of the 11th century BC. It is widely accepted in modern historiography that Corinth was founded by the Dorians from Argos. The author of the article, drawing on theinformation of ancientwritten tradition, proves thatthe city was founded by a special group of Dorians, who separated early from the bulk of the conquerors that came from the north.
