The typology of translation errors is one of the main categories of translation studies as a fundamental science. This article considers violation of lexical compatibility as a speech error in translation. The relevance of the work is determined by the fact that the analysis of cases of deviation from the norm can contribute to the study of such a fundamental, but completely little studied category of translation studies as the translation norm. The subject of this article is speech errors in the translation text, i.e. usage errors due to incorrect word selection. Errors of this kind include cases of violation of lexical compatibility, semantic compatibility and syntactic compatibility. In this article, we consider cases of violation of lexical compatibility. An analysis of practical material shows that, in practice, errors are often dominated by incorrect, inaccurate choice of language tools in the target language: semantic and / or logical accuracy is preserved, and errors occur at the stage of choosing language tools in the target language, which violate the language standard and norm translation. When translating, either copying the structure of the text of the original occurs, or the word is used in its first meaning, which leads to speech errors. Violation of lexical compatibility in translation can occur both in terms of text expression and violate the semantic space of the text of the translation.
