The direction of strengthening the development of insurance as an institutionof social and financial protection against risks is to increase the financial literacy of thepopulation - potential and existing insurers. However, the most important modern factorinfluencing the development of the financial market and insurance, as its segment, is sucha modern trend in social development as digitalization. The article holds the ideathat the concept of "financial literacy of the population" now means not only the development of knowledge related to the functioning of insurance as an independent type of activity. The article discusses the features of obtaining competencies in the field of digitalization in a higher Russian school. At the same time, the specificsof the content of competencies in the training of IT specialists, personnel of other specialties and the public - potential users of digital services in the profession and in everydaylife, are highlighted also.
