Methodological and methodical regulations of ecophytoindication as a new scientific direction, which is being developed at the department of Biogeography and Nature Protection of the Faculty of Geography and Geo-ecology, St.-Petersburg State University are presented. Method application is reviewed on the example of the Kirov district of St. Petersburg. A short survey of the works of different scientists who used methods of phytoindication with biological and geosystem orientations for the study of urban ecological state in Russia and abroad is given.
