This article deals with the topic of perception of cartographic works. It is
considered from the side of the laws of visual perception, which allow us to explain some of the rules
of mapping. Attention is also paid to mental maps and new forms of geo-images. The article
emphasizes the importance of studying the issue of perception of geo-images.
