My main research interests include: 1) dialectical relations between social fields, institutions, and practices; 2) mechanisms and causation in reproduction and change in practices and institutions; 3) the nature of power, and its relations to practices, capital, and fields; and 4) emergent propertires of fields and structures. In my research, my preference is to use case studies and comparative-historical methods. My projects include: 1) post-socialist economic change (past and current project); 2) political economy and practices of survival in the Blockade of Leningrad; 3) political economy of contemporary Russia; 4) political economy of Great Britain and the European Union; and 5) social fields and the political economy of economic theory and policy. I am also considering some work on the political economy of death, and on comparative political economies of the airline industry.
