I am particularly interested in comparative analysis of cultural backgrounds of psychological theories and implicit beliefs on human nature embedded into theories of personality and the impact of the ideology on the development of psychological science. My research work in this area is concerned with the problem of mutual understanding between different "schools" in psychology to promote integration of psychological knowledge in contemporary science. This problem is much relevant for Russian Psychology, which is now facing a challenge to join the international mainstream after more than 60 years of development in relative isolation. To facilitate the integration of Russian psychology into the world science, a certain hermeneutics is needed, which I am keen to perform.
An important issue my research addresses now is the impact of globalisation on the development of psychological science. New “global reality” is bringing forth a) radical changes of the human existence, which psychological science has to asses, and b) a ground for the formation of a polycentric “global psychology”, where “local” schools are facing new challenges and new prospects for future development.
Scientific cognition is rooted in lay common sense, thus it comes natural that another focus of my research is Social Cognition which is the study of how people interpret the world and themselves.
This is more related to empirical research work which I perform with my students. I have a wide experience in the analysis of Mental RepresentationsandSocial Representations, investigating implicit theories of human intelligence and personality. My students’ theses have been dedicated to gender stereotypes of human intelligence, to the impact of the type of character on the worldview, etc.
