This article is devoted to the history of appearance and creation of the mesnevî Hüsn ü Aşk (“Beauty and Love”), written by an Ottoman thinker, mystic and poet of the 18th century, Sheykh Galip, who is considered to be the “last of the greatest classical Ottoman poets”. The popularity of “Beauty and Love” is not inferior to the popularity of the famous Turkic poem “Layla and Majnun” by Fuzuli due to the simplicity and accessibility of the language and the entertaining plot. The poem is considered to be a nazire to a poem Hayr‑âbâd (“The City of Blessedness”) by a prominent writer of 17th century, Nabi. At the same time, a lot of elements from the poem of the same name (Sıhhat u Maraz (“Health and Illness”) = Hüsn ü Aşk) by Turkic poet and thinker Fizuli could be found in this text.
