The article analyzes German historiography, related to the problem of ancient politogenesis: the origin and development of political institutions and statehood. This historiography was under the strong influence of the Russian scientific thought, first of all, its emigrant branch. As a result, the "democratic" theory of politogenesis reflected in the works by the German and Austrian historians.
