The metaverse holds immense potential to revolutionize medical education through the combination of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) experiences. This innovative application offers promising opportunities for doctors, medical students, and patients, presenting a dynamic shift in the medical and healthcare industry. By leveraging the metaverse, medical students can embark on a groundbreaking learning experience, exploring intricately detailed 3D models of the human body, observing surgeries in immersive simulations, and safely practicing medical procedures. Despite the significant advantages it offers, there is a noticeable research gap in the medical education domain concerning the adoption and implementation of metaverse systems. The current research in this field is limited and is in its early stages of development, lacking comprehensive exploration of the potential pros and cons of incorporating metaverse technology into medical education. Moreover, the scarcity of studies focused on the Indian context adds to the dearth of insights into how Indian medical students perceive and interact with metaverse systems. This study aims to address these gaps by surveying 472 medical students in India using the Technology Adaption Model (TAM) constructs, including other constructs such as Trust (TR), Personal Innovativeness (PI), Perceived Enjoyment (PEN), Self-efficacy (SE), Technology Anxiety (TAX), and Curiosity (CU). The collected data was analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), providing valuable insights into students’ perceptions of metaverse technology in the Indian medical education system. The implications of this study will be substantial for various stakeholders such as software engineers, medical colleges, administrators, and students.
