The effective elastic and conductive properties of microcracked materials are controlled by parameters of the 3D crack density (scalar, in the isotropic case of random crack orientations, and tensor, in cases of non-random orientations). However, these parameters are difficult to be determined experimentally. On the other hand, the information on line crack traces on boundaries of specimens cut out of the material may be readily available. The present work develops the methodology of estimating the effective elastic and conductive properties of microcracked materials from the density and orientations of the mentioned traces. The accuracy of the obtained estimates is illustrated by numerical simulations.
