The present article touches upon the issue of listening texts as the core element of the system of teaching foreign language listening comprehension. They take place first of all in single purpose textbooks that should be regarded as the main tool in foreign language teaching for both systematic classroom instruction and self-directed learning including learning outside the country where the language is spoken. The textbooks can be complemented by educational podcasts used for training.
