Rapid growth of metagenomics in the last decade has led to creation of multiple software packages, including
metagenome assemblers, quality evaluation methods, annotation tools, etc. While metagenomic sequencing experiments allow to reveal various information, such as genome sequences, gene content, species abundance and strain
composition, it may not provide insights on gene expression and bacterial community functionality. In addition to
metagenome sequencing, metatranscriptomic experiments became more and more popular in recent years. However, no computational pipeline for metaRNA assembly can be considered as a standard in the field, and researchers
have to use various in-house scripts and tools, developed either for metagenomic or conventional transcriptomic
data. In this project we perform initial quality assessment of metatranscriptome assemblies obtained with tools
from SPAdes family, which have proven themselves on various types of sequencing data. In addition, we explore
potential benefits from co-assembly of metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data.
