In this report, the results for two widely-used polymers in ultrafiltration such as polyphenylene isophthalamide (PA) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) modified by titanium oxide will be presented. Titanium oxide was chosen as a modifier and a photocatalyst for the development of high-performance filtration membranes with good antifouling properties. The choice of above-mentioned polymers was due to their high permeability and good resistance to majority of solvents. The report contains the synthesis and characterization of modified polymer ultrafiltration membrane by different methods of analysis. Thus, structure and physicochemical properties of the developed membranes were investigated by SEM and AFM microscopies, contact angle and the standard porosimetry method. Transport properties of the obtained membranes were evaluated in ultrafiltration of water and bovine serum albumin solution. It will be demonstrated that the modification of PA and PAN membranes with the titanium oxide particles lead to a significant improvement of the membrane transport characteristics and antifouling properties.
