The research draws attention to the fact that the profession of translation is in danger of extinction, as evidenced by the increasing proliferation of digital translation. Two fundamental questions arise: whether the translation performed by an artificial intelligence system is subject to copyright and who owns the copyright for such translation. Based on the analysis of Russian and foreign legislation and practices of individual online-translators, a conclusion is made that the translated texts which are post-edited by a translator are subject to copyright protection and the texts which are not edited are not subject to copyright protection.
