The paper is focused on communicative asymmetry in medical discourse.
The analysis is performed as follows:
1. Analysis of turns: the total number of communicative turns, the number of turns for participant 1 (doctor), participant 2 (patient). “Verbosity” of individual participants, i.e. length of their turns in words.
2. Analysis of interruptions and overlaps of various types: the total number of interruptions / overlaps, the number of interruptions / overlaps initiated by participant 1 (doctor), the number of interruptions / overlaps initiated by participant 2 (patient).
3. Analysis of questions: the total number of questions, the number of questions from participant 1 (doctor), the number of questions from participant 2 (patient).
Records of three medical consultations in the polyclinic with a total duration of about 60 min were examined.
