The presentation touches the analisys of the novel is about Russian history at the period of transition in 1980s-early 1990s. We are focusing on cultural narratives, including religion, epos, Russian national character and traditions of everyday life. The central charecter - Ilia Makoshin - is actually the representation of epic hero - Ilia Muromets or Ilya of Murom, sometimes Ilya Murometz. He is a folk hero of ancient Kievan Rus', a bogatyr (akin to knight-errant) and a character of many bylinas (East Slavic medieval epic poems). The novel we are considering itself based on the famous novel written by Boris Pasternak "Doctor Zhivago" in its composition and contents, but contains numerous difference in concept of Russian Church role in structuring of Soviet/Russian society and correlation of intellectuals and laborers. The most amazing is the author of this text, who is a prominent diplomat from Russian School of MOFA Kawato Akio, who served at Moscow at the time of USSR collapse, and novel based on the evidencies seen by himself.
