Affected by changes in the geopolitical and economic environments such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the COVID-19, and the Sino-US rivalry, as well as the influence of regional development core-marginalization, the importance of cross-border economic cooperation between Northeast China and Far East Russia has rapidly increased. It is of great significance to explore the development of cross-border economic cooperation and its spatial evolution mechanism based on endogenous and geo-exogenous forces in border areas. This project synthesizes the multidisciplinary theories of economic geography, political geography, country and regional geography to construct a theoretical framework for the distribution of elements of cross-border economic cooperation-spatial organization-and the evolution of functional structure; We conduct social network analysis and spatial statistical modeling to portray the spatial evolution process of cross-border economic cooperation in border areas under different dimensions through field research, and in-depth interviews, network analysis and other methods to analyze the quantitative and path relationships between the spatial evolution processes of cross-border economic cooperation and the set of influencing variables at different scales, and systematically analyze the influencing mechanisms of the spatial evolution of cross-border economic cooperation; Based on the mechanism, we analyze the development trends of the spatial evolution of cross-border economic cooperation between Northeast China and Far East Russia under different scenarios in the new development stage, and propose corresponding development models and regulatory paths. The project provides scientific decision-making basis for promoting cross-border regional economic cooperation between China and Russia, a new round strategy for Northeast revitalization, and developing a national geopolitical security.
