In this paper, the author identifies the key features and general characteristics of the policies of Mexico and Brazil towards the political, economic, and migration crises of Venezuela. Based on the time frame of 2013–2019. The concept of national interests of both states is taken as a basis and the degree of their interest in the situation in Venezuela is analyzed. In addition, the question arises of the priority of objective national interests and ideological principles in the development and implementation of policies regarding the Venezuelan crisis. The author considers Mexican and Brazilian policies on the issue under consideration separately before and after 2018 in connection with the renewal of the political elites of both states and the coming to power of nationalist-oriented populists. The author also considers the policies of both states regarding Venezuela through the prism of the idea of regional leadership of the two countries and the problems of implementing this idea.
