The article analyzes the environmental practices of young people (aged 17–25 years old) in St. Petersburg and their contribution to the strategic goals of sustainable development of the region. Environmental practices as forms of environmental behavior are included in the lifestyle of young people and form preferences in the choice of tourist destinations and products. It is noted that ecotourism is supported mainly by young people. This is due to the opening of opportunities for self-development and the implementation of various types of activity, which is expressed in new directions of recreational activities and changes the geography of travel. The purpose of the study is to analyze the environmental practices common among the youth of St. Petersburg and their relationship with the choice of environmental trends and formats of ecotourism by young people. Based on the analysis of the research results using survey methods, the types of everyday environmental practices of young people, priorities for recreation and leisure, containing an environmental component, are identified. A new format of a tourist product, in which young people are interested, is an eco-hotel, the functional characteristics of which include both the provided environmentally oriented services and reputational aspects of the development of the tourism sector, events, and educational forms of activity. The problem of taking into account the readiness of young people to actively participate in the formation and implementation of the environmental policy of the region is raised. It is concluded that the mutual influence of environmental practices and ecotourism, in which young people are increasingly involved, contributes to the main goal of sustainable development minimizing the negative impact of humans on the environment.
