The chapter discusses the key problems and prospects for the digital transformation of the educational process in universities, based on online technologies. To explore the prospects for distance learning, the authors have formulated the following hypothesis: distance learning will remain a popular form of learning in higher education after the pandemic. The methodological basis of this study includes: surveys of students conducted by the authors about the advantages and disadvantages of introducing distance learning in the educational process at the Faculty of Economics of St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to the present day; analyses of contemporary studies on the application of distance learning in higher education institutions; and comparison of the conclusions obtained by the authors and other researchers with the results of surveys of students. The focus is on several key areas: factors that facilitate or hinder information comprehension during distance learning; distinctions necessary between lectures and practical classes in an online format; and the various techniques, technologies, and methods introduced to students during distance learning sessions, including those they appreciated or disliked, along with the reasons for their preferences. The authors emphasize the significance of understanding student opinions, as the demand for high-quality education primarily originates from learners themselves. The author's conclusions are based on the results of surveys of undergraduate, graduate and additional program students at St. Petersburg State University. Recommendations are offered for the successful mastery of disciplines in a distance format, which can be useful to teachers and students of undergraduate, graduate, and additional education, as well as when developing online courses. Hybrid learning technologies, combining the use of digital online technologies and traditional offline teaching methods, have recently become increasingly popular and are increasingly being integrated into modern educational practice, since their integration enriches the learning process with new opportunities and makes it possible to more effectively use the advantages of both, and second, and eliminate their shortcomings.
