Research background: The processes of concentration and centralization in certain sectors of the Russian economy (telecommunications, food retail, and others) have long been the area of scientific interest of the authors of this series of articles.
Purpose of the article: Concentration and centralization have become one of the main global trends in economic development. As a result, many sectors of the economy, especially in industry, turned out to be largely monopolized. The purpose of this article is to identify the relationship between the dynamics of the market concentration indicator and other important statistical indicators on the basis of econometric analysis. The sub-sectors of the manufacturing industry of the North-Western Federal District (NWFD) of Russia were selected as the object of the study.
Methods: The methodological basis of the study is the system-functional and statistical-experimental approaches, the use of econometric analysis tools. The theoretical basis of the study was determined within the framework of classical and neoclassical economics. The study was conducted using the system and comparative methods.
Findings & Value added: On the basis of the interrelations of the period under study revealed by descriptive statistics, several econometric models were constructed. These models made it possible to identify, with a number of assumptions, a direct relationship between the value of the Herfindahl-Hirschman index and the volume of goods shipped.
