This contribution reports on an ongoing research project aimed in developing a unified theoretical framework for the description of interconnected thermo-mechanical systems with a particular emphasis on thermodynamic engines. We analyse from the geometrical viewpoint the structure of thermodynamic and mechanical interconnection and propose an approach to the unified description of thermo-mechanical systems.
