Photometry of edge-on spiral galaxies: structural parameters and scaling relations of bulges

Abstract

An investigation of the main structural and photometric parameters of edge-on spiral galaxies was carried out. We compare the results of analysis of edge-on galaxies images taken from several studies with our own ones for the 2MASS edge-on galaxies sample. New surprising results concerning several well-known bulge scaling relations are discussed. We show that some of them are pseudo-correlations, not actual relations between the structural parameters of bulges. They are the relation between the Sérsic index of the bulge and its central surface brightness and the so-called Photometric Plane for bulges.
