The experimental measurement of the lateral diffusion in an intermediate phase of the cationic fluorocarbon surfactant 1,1,2,2-tetrahydroperfluorodecylpyridinium chloride (HFDePC) was described. The surfactant domain was topologically continuous and the X-ray diffraction pattern pointed to an temperature independent structure. The surfactant diffusion coefficients from liquid crystal phase were measured by pulsed-field-gradientspin-echo (PGSE) nuclear magnetic resonance (NR). It was found that the activation energy for the lateral diffusion of fluorosurfactants in bilayers was higher than the same quantity for the diffusion in fluoroalkanes.
