Investigation of the Xenon excimer continuum in gas-discharge plasma

Abstract

This paper investigates the shape of the excimer radiation band profile of Xe2* molecules under gas discharges in the region of small and medium gas pressures for the case when the distribution function over vibrational states is far from equilibrium. It is shown that for certain conditions a maximum of an excimer band near 170 nm is formed corresponding to the transition from lower vibrational states of the excited terms (second continuum).
