Abstract

Inter-border traffic provides an international trade in goods. Capacities of transport infrastructural objects influence on an intensity of commodities’ flows. Well-planned commodities flows contribute to regional and national economic growth. On the other hand, economic growth promotes generating new trade flows or strengthening old ones that requires modernization of the transport infrastructure. The primary goal of our research is to identify the interdependence of the intensity of trade flows and economic growth in the Eastern Baltic. To achieve this goal we have put following tasks. First, to determine the commodity and geographical structure of international trade in the region. Secondly, to identify the correspondence between the traffic capacity of the existing and planned transport infrastructure and intensity of trade flows in the region. Third, given the transit significance of the region, to assess the impact of economic growth on the formation of goods flows.
