Instability of linearly polarized lasing modes of a single-mode VCSEL

Abstract

Conditions of stability of linearly polarized lasing modes were analyzed within the framework of the spin-flip theory of vertical cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL). It was found that dichroism extended the instability ranges from one polarization and narrowed these ranges for the other polarization. The role played in the formation of stability boundaries by the linear dichroism introduced into the system by a semiconductor crystal was ascertained.
