The chiral symmetry breaking (CSB) due to formation of quark condensate is investigated in fermion models with quasilocal interaction and a momentum cutoff. Such models reveal a number of excited meson states with the same quantum numbers around polycritical points. The mass spectrum of scalar and pseudoscalar excited states is calculated in the two-channel model and the possibility of existence of a heavy pion with the mass less than 1 GeV is established.
