Elegant computation of phase-detector characteristics of BPSK Costas loop with non-sinusoidal signals

Abstract

An elegant analytical method for the derivation of the non-linear mathematical model of classical Costas electric circuit with non-sinusoidal signal waveforms is presented. Resulting model is similar to classical phase-locked loop (PLL) with special waveform of the phase detector characteristic. Phase detector characteristic can be computed analytically using Fourier series representation. The method is based on the averaging theorem.
