Computer simulation of plate cooling by ionic wind from a system of needles

Abstract

The paper deals with the study of the cooling of a heated grounded electrode-plate by an ionic wind from a series of needles located above the plate for the case of positive polarity. Three-dimensional computer simulation using the finite element method is used to analyze the processes. The dependence of the cooling efficiency on the distance between the needles was studied for a fixed distance between the plate and the needles. The current-voltage characteristics of the corona discharge, the distribution of the velocity of the ionic wind in the space between the needles, the distribution of the power of the heat removal from the plate surface were obtained and analyzed.
