Calculation of quasidegenerate energy levels of two-electron ions

Abstract

A line profile approach was presented for the evaluation of energies of any number of the nondegenerate or quasidegenerate levels. The interelectron interaction corrections up to first and second order of quantum-electrodynamical (QED) perturbation theory were evaluated for the (1s2p)21P1 and (1s2p)23P1 in a wide range of Z values where Z is the nuclear charge number. The calculations were carried out within the Coulomb gauge. The results show that using the fully relativistic treatment based on the j-j coupling scheme make the energy levels quasidegenerate in the region Z≤40.
