In this paper, deformations of an elastic transverse isotropic cylindrical layer under normal pressure are considered in the three-dimensional formulation. Asymptotic formulas that describe the behavior of a layer that is significantly softer in the transverse direction than in the tangential plane are obtained. The exact and asymptotic solutions are compared and the influence of the parameters on the relative layer thickness is analyzed.
