Application of smart technologies for the development of a region: A case study on tourism industry in St. Petersburg

Abstract

Russian projects in the sphere of smart urban transformation, as a rule, affect such areas as electric power, transport and mobility, public safety, but less attention is paid to the transformation of the tourist industry. Nevertheless, it is through tourism that destinations promote themselves on the world stage, becoming attractive not only for local residents but also for visiting tourists, who are becoming more and more demanding of comfort and optimization for their travels. The article describes the main directions of the development of cities using smart technologies. Examples of their use in the Russian Federation and in the city of St. Petersburg are given, and promising development goals are described.
