Abstract

The monotypic family Uraloptysmatidae (Protomeropina) is erected and described on the basis of its type species, Uraloptysma maculatum gen. et sp. nov., from the Lower Permian Chekarda locality. The unique good preservation has permitted detailed description of the wings, head, body and genitalia. The new family is related to the fossil caddis flies of the Microptysmatidae family and, together with the latter, is among the oldest representatives of the order Trichoptera. -Journal summary
